Maid of the bridge

Maid of the Bridge

Maid of the Bridge was commissioned by Crest Nicholson as part of the new Riverside development in Bath.  The brief was to use the Victorian era wrought iron chain links from the Victoria Bridge that needed to be restored to make it safe and able to be opened as a new pedestrian link between the two banks of the Avon river.

Working with local craftspeople Iron Art of Bath, local but internationally renown engineers Buro Happold, and curator and arts consultant Peter Dickinson, Anna created this sculpture that was installed in November 2018.  The sculpture is designed to reflect the direction of flow of the river and create a physical and symbolic link between the past industrial history of the site and current craftsmanship and skill in the city.  It is also hoped it will create a visual link between the two banks of the river and enliven the modern development it sits within.
